WHICH LED LAMPS CAN BE DIMMED?
Not all LED lamps are dimmable. This is specifically indicated on the packaging of the dimmable LED lamp. This is possible with: "dimmable", "dimmable" or with a symbol.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR CONNECTING DIMMABLE LED LIGHTING?
There are a number of basic requirements for connecting the dimmer:
- LED dimmer
- Dimmable LED lamps
- Screwdriver, small and flathead
- Transformer (if applicable)
WHEN DO I NEED A TRANSFORMER / DRIVER?
You need a transformer if the LED lamp does not work on 230V mains power. Therefore always look carefully at the technical data which input voltage the LED lighting needs. Usually, this is 12V or 24V. This is different for LED recessed spots. They work on an mA instead of a voltage. A transformer has an output voltage and a driver an output current. That is why these recessed spots need a driver and not a transformer. In addition, with a Voltage, it is important to know whether the LED lamp constant voltage (DC) or alternating voltage (AC) works. This is indicated in the technical data, here you can adjust the type of transformer.
WHICH TRANSFORMER DO YOU NEED? 12V / 24V DIMMING WITH DIMMABLE TRANSFORMER
Do you have LED lamps on 12V / 24V and do you want to dim these with a built-in wall dimmer? Pay close attention to the transformer, also called transformer, that you purchase. This is because a transformer can influence the dimming range and any flicker/vibration. It is important to order the right combination, but how do you find it? Our LED experts have tested all possible transformers and dimmers with the lamps. Based on this, they prepare dim advice. This advice is always stated on the product page of the LED lamps. So you have the right dimming combination in a few clicks and you can get started right away.
HOW DO I CONNECT DIMMABLE LED LIGHTING?
Connecting dimmable LED lighting is easier than you think! The basic steps for connecting a built-in 230V wall dimmer according to our LED experts:
- Make sure the power is turned off
- Connect the dimmer according to the manual
- Place the LED lighting in the fixture and connect the dimmer to it. If applicable, connect the dimmer to the transformer and then connect the transformer to the lamps again
- Switch on the power and adjust the potentiometer according to the manual
- Attach the cover frame to the dimmer
WHY DOES AN LED LAMP FLICKER?
If your LED lamp flickers or blinks, this can have a number of reasons. First, check whether the lamp is dimmable. If this is not the case, the lamps do not get enough power and they start blinking. Is the lamp dimmable? Then you may want to dim the LED lamp on an old halogen dimmer. Unfortunately, these techniques do not work well together, causing the light to flicker. If you do have an LED dimmer you can change the settings of the dimmer by turning the potentiometer. You can set this potentiometer so that the lamps stay stable.
WHICH TRANSFORMER DO YOU NEED? 12V / 24V DIMMING WITH DIMMABLE TRANSFORMER
Do you have lamps on 12V / 24V? Then it is possible that the lamps will start to flash due to the minimum load of a halogen transformer. LED lighting uses much less wattage than halogen and another traditional lighting. The total LED wattage then falls below the minimum load of the transformer. It is then wise to replace this transformer with an LED transformer without minimal load. Like our LED transformers from YPHIX.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DIMMING?
Primary dimming means that the LED lamps are dimmed for the transformer. You need a dimmable transformer for this. With secondary dimming, the lamps are dimmed after the transformer. The transformer does not have to be dimmable. Often 12V / 24V LED lighting is dimmed secondary and this dimmer is operated with a radio remote control. Primary dimming is possible with 230V lighting in combination with an LED built-in wall dimmer.
HOW MANY LAMPS CAN I CONNECT TO A DIMMER?
How many lamps you can place on a dimmer depends on the type, wattage and power factor of the LED lamp. Read in the product description of our lamps the maximum number of pieces that you can connect to the dimmer recommended by us. This dimmer is listed with the related products. We test the load that our light sources exert on the dimmers and measure exactly how many lamps can be connected to the recommended dimmer.
I STILL HAVE A DIMMER AT HOME, CAN I USE IT?
You can always test whether the dimmer gives the desired dimming range, without flickering. Does it work? Nice! If not, you can purchase the dimmer recommended by our LED experts on the product page.
IS THIS DIMMER SUITABLE FOR LAMPS PURCHASED ELSEWHERE?
Do you have a LED light from another supplier? First, ask whether this dimmer is suitable for your LED lamp and the power factor of the lamp. If the power factor (how much power the LED lamp actually consumes) is not known, then maintain the following rule of thumb: load the dimmer to a maximum of 30 to 35% of the maximum load when 230V LED lamps are used. In most cases, the maximum load with LED lamps obtained by this calculation is stated on the dimmer. For a dimmer that can be loaded with incandescent lamps or halogen up to a maximum of 100W, a load with LED lamps, with an unknown power factor, of up to 35W applies, for example.
